Welcome to this weeks installment of my Wednesday feature, and today I have a delicious dark fantasy novella to share with you.
Product Description courtesy of Amazon UK
One is a killer. One is the right hand of the Devil. Which is worse?
Angela Mitchell hates her life. When debonair stranger, Marcel, turns up in her library one night things look to be on the up. But neither of them saw Darin in the shadows.
Angela certainly never saw Hell coming to earth.
When Marcel and Darin clash, Angela is dragged through the sulfur stench of Hades, has to fight for her life, and drinks wine. Lots of wine.
Crossing Guard is part one of The Devil’s Hand series, a dark fantasy with spatters of humor and a dash of inter-dimensional romance.
Mark Taylor is an author from the United Kingdom specializing in Horror, working mostly in the field of the short story, but works constantly towards novelization.
Starting as a writer in his thirties he has had dozens of short stories published in print, from publishing houses large and small. His collection of short stories in the anthology, 'The Human Condition', will be in print soon from Wicked East Press.
He has just completed his first novel.
I read Crossing Guard ~ The Devils Hand ~ Book 1 a few weeks ago and promised that I would do a review. So here it is, no spoilers though.
This a deliciously dark fantasy story, which only took a short time to read as it was highly engaging and totally absorbing. The characters are very well developed even though this is a novella, and the writing style is brisk, yet also detailed enough to keep you turning the pages. This is not something to start and put down halfway through, it compels you to the very last page.
The plot is slickly written, with a twist that I hadn't expected. There are also some humorous laugh out loud moments, the style of which reminded me of Douglas Adam's novel: Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.
So if you're looking for a dark twisted fantasy/horror novella with a little dash of comedy to lose yourself in, try this.
Thanks for joining me today and I'll be back on Friday with something else to feast your eyes upon.
